Recruit a Meek

Hire a candidate off the Astronaut Center's board and put them on your roster.

Use this when you need a second pilot, when you have lost the one you had, or when you want a scientist aboard to make your readings pay more.

Before you start

Steps

  1. Tap Center in the hangar. The Space Center opens on a world you hold a pad on.
  2. Find the Astronaut Center on the strip and tap it. Drag the strip sideways, or tap ALL in the top right to see every building at once. Its sheet opens below.
The Astronaut Center ringed on the Space Center strip, with its sheet open below showing MEEK AT ONCE, RECRUITS UP TO, an Open the Meek button and an Upgrade button.
The Astronaut Center's sheet. Open the Meek is on the left along the bottom.
  3. Tap Open the Meek. The sheet titled The Meek opens on the Roster tab.
  4. Tap Recruit. The board fills with candidate cards, each with a price and a Hire button on its foot line.
The Recruit tab with two candidate cards, each showing five stat bars, a foot line with the G limit and the price, and a Hire button.
Each card's green bars are the stats that trade is judged on; the price is on the same line as the G limit.
  5. Tap Hire on the card you want. The button reads "Signing…" while the game signs them.

What you should see

The card leaves the board. The line under the tabs reads the Meek's name followed by "signed on.", the count above the tabs goes up by one, and your credits drop by the price shown. The new Meek is on the Roster tab and can be seated in a pod straight away.

Why Hire won't tap

What the sheet saysWhat it means
"The Astronaut Center holds 3 Meek at a time. Let one go, or extend it."Your roster is full. Dismiss a Meek, or upgrade the building. Passengers a contract lent you do not count against this.
"No Astronaut Center to sign them at."Nothing to hire at. This should not happen: the building stands from the start.
"Nobody on the board right now."The board is empty. It refills on its own; come back.
"Offline — the server keeps your roster."You are not signed in. Nobody can be hired until you are.
"Sandbox: the Meek sign on in the shared world."You are in sandbox. Switch back to the shared world in Settings.
"Waiting for your record…"The game has not finished loading your account. Wait a moment.

A greyed Hire with no message means you cannot afford that candidate. Their price is on the foot line beside their G limit.

Note
Offers expire and are replaced. The note above the first card names the trades the board is drawing at your Astronaut Center's level, and the trades the next level would add.
